Random picture not related to anything in this post...

Random Picture, not related to anything in this post.
Hey,

So I've just done my second and final days work at the Townsville Racecourse. This week was the Townsville cup, I'm not sure if that means anything to you it certainly doesn't for me.

Bar work would be too strong of a word to use for what I was doing. Essentially everyone bought tickets at the front gate to "buy" drinks with, all I was required to do is take the ticket, get the drink and open the dam cans.

To top the fun days activity off, after 8 hours working with no breaks I had to walk 5km to get home because the buses don't run that far on a Saturday, and I sure as Hell wasn't paying for a taxi cus it cost me $20 to get there in the 1st place.

The highlight of my day was when I served to be what I perceived out of the corner of my eye to be a big tall blonde. WRONG! When "it" asked for a rum and coke in a deeper voice than me, I stood in shock for a few seconds. I did stare a little but I think he/she was used to that cus he/she smiled said thank you and carried on without a care in the world.

I served, lets just call him a her because that's what he's going for, confused me too. Anyways I served her a few more times after that and TBH I got used to it. I say go for it...Lesson #7 Do what makes you happy. This person was obviously following this rule.

What are the other lessons you ask? Just incase they may change your life there over here.

In other news.....

It seems I am starting to become accustom to the warmth, I find it gets really cold in the mornings now to the severity that I have to wear PJ's. I call them PJ's but really its a hoody and joggers.

I seen my 1st Kangaroo road kill, and no I didn't take a picture....you weirdos.

The German language can be a bit lazy. The word Bastard for example is spelt the same but said slightly differently, lets just say that if you hear it in German you'll know it. Perhaps its the English language that is lazy, maybe we took it from them. WIKIPEDIA to the rescue.....

Auf Wiedersien ( that's bye to us regular Joes)

Speaking of Joes go here, he hasn't updated since February so perhaps a few visitors will get him goin again.

All out tourist......

Not content with being a stereotypical backpacker, I thought I'd  go all out tourist today. I held a Koala and got the souvenir photograph to go with it.

Cute huh? Koala ain't bad neither.
We went to a place called the Billabong Sanctuary. Its this cool little place 17km outside of Townsville that let you handle some of the animals. It sounds cruel but its not, the animals even seem to like it.

They have a wombat there that lost 20% of its body weight after cyclone Yasi hit them and they tried everything the knew to nurse it back to health. It turned out that it was suffering depression because they had to shut the place down for repairs and  it wasn't getting the interaction that it was used too.

It was a fun day out and only planned yesterday too. I guess spontaneity is a good thing. I also fed a Kangaroo, held a Snake and Crocodile, a baby one of course, fed the cockatoos (did that already but fun to do it again) chased ducks, raced turtles, got poo on my leg, not my own i'll have you know.

It may be no Australia Zoo, but it had a charm all of its own. Relaxed and chilled, with some very funny conservationists.

A lot of things got ticked off the too do in Oz list today.

Another 1st for me today came by the way of a blogger friend of mine over at Dribble, I have done my 1st guest post. :O Head over for a Dribbling Randomness.

Shopping as it should be........

Shopping here in Oz is a totally different from back home in Scotland Ireland. Supermarkets are full of people all the time and I mean Choc-a-block. Usually you have to fight folk for that last pack of loo roll.

Its a pleasure to take a wee walk down the shops. Just wander in, no hassle and no pushing. Check out staff are polite and they seem genuinely happy.

Of course there are happy check out chicks back in Ireland, hell am dating one and consider another to be a bestest bud of mine but the majority of them a sour faced old cows.

The only explanation I can offer for this is the Sun, it keeps everyones vitamin D topped up or the extra strength UV has addled their brains.

HAHAHAH....I've just read this and it seems not everyone agrees.....

Anywho's I have been here in Australia now for 1 month and I wanted to share some of the wonderful foodstuffs I've come across. Nicest 1st of course.

#1 Cherry Ripe/Cherry Roll
#2 Chicken Salt
#3 Maggi Noodles
#4 Sunkist
#5 Raisin Bread
#6 Iced Coffee

If a Bounty had sex with a Ruffle the baby would be this....I'd then proceed to eat that baby. This makes more sense if your from the U.K. I suppose.

Things we do for the ones we love.........

This is a post dedicated to the fact that me and my lovely girlfriend have been together a year. Technically it was on Thursday but typical me am a bit late at posting.

I know what your thinking...Only one year and you've both cleared of to another country together???? Well we had been best buds for a few years before hand. So its not like shes a stranger.

As backpackers we have no money!!!! So we kept things low key. No candle lit dinner or anything, just a wee day pottering about down the shopping centre. I didn't really know what to buy her to mark the occasion but as ever fate provided. She spied golly dolls, so I bought her Maurice, the male counter part to the one she bought last time in Oz....

Now if you read my blog, you'll know am not too fond of Gollys...Read here to catch up.

I put my feelings for the creepy things aside for Kylie, I guess that is the real present.
Although he still isn't allowed to look at me or be near me....It's those damn eyes and their evil intentions!

That's it....Except to say

I LOVE YOU KYLIE............

Now for those of you who want to be sick there are sickbags provided at the rear.......

YEAH!!!! JOB!!!! Well, sort of....

I just finished the 1st bit of work I've got since getting here. For 3 days I have been helping to erect tents for the Australian V8 Supercar event. I believe this is an event that tours all around the country.

They had just painted it.
I know what your thinking, tents? Ha! a boy scout can do that...

Even though I've been erecting tents on a daily basis for over a decade(wink wink) it was still hard graft. These tents are huge with Steel and Aluminium frames and stupid framed flooring. I say stupid because the guy that designed them is an eejit and obviously hadn't put a floor together before, it was in a million pieces and fiddley as f**k.

not me in the pic btw...

I get paid the lower rate, but it still works out that what I get paid for a days work here is almost as much as a weeks worth back home. Awesome for me now, but when I sit and think about it I realise that the term "Rip Off Britain" is a very accurate one.

I can't say I've ever worked in the construction trade before but I surprised myself in how handy I was. I guess all the bollocking my Da used to give me when I helped him DIY'ing maybe sorta worked.

Am aching in places that I haven't ached before but it still feels good to have had a little bit of work, considering I have done nout since 24th May.

I've got the promise of a few days next week when the V8's are done, and am hoping they come down easier than they went up.

Up the workers

Kylie has also got her self job and a pretty good one at that. She is flogging Austar to people at a shopping center. (Jonny Foreigner note; Austar = cable TV). The good thing is, is that when we feel like moving on, they might be able to transfer her. This is only her 1st working day mind you, so am getting a bit ahead of myself.

P.S. Apparently I sound Scottish, most of the people in this hostel thought I came from Scotland. I am Northern Irish sure enough but I don't like my accent, so am well chuffed that is what they think. I spent a couple of years living in Scotland, so maybe I absorbed some of the brogue.

Enough babbling from me, am sleepy and away for a late siesta......
