Oh the joys.....

Packing, it's one of those love hate relationships. I hate doing it at the time but then love it when its completed, that sense of satisfaction you get from accomplishing the seemingly impossible. Incidentally the same feeling you get when you play Tetris.

you may peruse my belongings.

Yup, you guessed correct, am moving again. This time we have to jump ship to another hostel because these guys are chucking us out. Am sure i've mentioned it, they "won" a contract to house 70 Papua New Guinea students and the contract means that the whole place has to be for them so we are getting the boot.

Weird to say the least, this hostels capacity is around 130 so there is plenty of room and it's not like Kylie and I are druggies or big drinkers but I guess "big" money speaks louder to business owners.

I've been working the day shifts for the past 3 weeks 10.30 till 6. Then yesterday I had to do some cover work and was working till 9pm. Turns out 90% of the people on nite shift thought I had left altogether. Communication seems to be a problem in this bar.

But they will see enough of me soon as I will be going back to nites. A new lady, a new full time lady, a new full time Australian lady will be taking over from now on. Am not pissed but I do have to get used to the stupid drunk people again.

Not much else to say today other than, have you seen a TV show called Breaking Bad? It is a must watch if your into things like Dexter or Sopranos.

I'll leave you to make what you will from this image. I will say however that it is a very smart show, well written and well acted. Very adult orientated subject matter, which makes it into my top 10 tv shows.

bye for now.

Aussie day!

SMOTHC - Superman 1979

All I remember is he can look through dresses and see pink panties. Why not look further Superman, it's obvious Lois is a bit trampy.

I watched the extended version with a whole 50 mins dedicated to Krypton and the fact its gonna blow up but Clarks sorry Kal-els father is the only super smart braniac scientist that can see it coming. The others must just be average run of the mill smart scientist.

side note: Aliens cloths glow like they been raving under blacklights.

Sadly this is where the movie takes a leap from the good to bad, with the introduction of Lex Luther and his henchman to the absurd turning back time by flying round the earth so fast that the rotation reverses. Physics 101 of course!

I used to think this movie was the bees knees, honestly I loved it as a kid and held it in high esteem until this 3rd? rewatch, Now at 25 I see it for what it is.

Am sad, I don't wanna watch the sequels now incase they are shit too. Maybe I'll put the 2nd one on and realise Ursula is not a sexy independent woman but a feminist man hater and that Zod is actually only scary because of his beard.

Not that my rating will change it's rating on IMDB but I will give it 6/10, only because Christopher Reeves and Marlon Brando's stellar performances.

Other news:

It's Australia day today. My understanding of it is, it's a celebration of the day Captain Phillip bumped his boat into Sydney Cove thus starting the great age of singlets and thongs. I've also learned that it was not called Australia until 1826, a whole 38 years after it was "discovered". Here was me thinking it was just another excuse for the Aussies to drink beer and have BBQ's.

Aussie beer garden...

Last week in this Hostel, gotta be out for Wednesday. There may be an options of house sharing with a few other inmates. Did I ever mention that this hostel is an ex Mental asylum, it's true back in the early 1900's. Room 4 used to be a morgue!

I bought a new toy! A tablet, na no iPad for me, Apple are too restrictive. I opted for an Android the Motorola Xoom to be precise. Got it on sale and IT IS AWESOME. So smooth and intuitive, it's running Honeycomb but I believe it will be getting an update to ICS very soon and then it will be epic. SPent too much money that day so have to be a good boy for a wee while now. Well except for today cus I need to buy new headphone and a mem card for the the thing.

Speak soon TTYL.....

SMOTWC and other goings on.

Batman 1966

Holy turd of a film Batman!

I watched this in 10 min segments, not because that's how they are split on YouTube but because it's so excruciating to watch. The best thing I can say about this movie is that indeed it does end.

It's camper than Ricky Iglesias rind-stone encrusted leather man thong! But we are talking about a movie from 60's America when everything needed to be in bright colours to hold the attention of the tripping hippys.

The crappy outfits were outdone only by the seriously cheesy dialogue. Some examples include

"How should I have known that they would have a can of shark repellent spray with them" Yeah you and me both Penguin. This not only demonstrates the dialogue but also the crazy plot.

"wait it happened at sea, C for cat woman!". If ever there was a reason to use OMG! this is surely it. This is Boy wonder "figuring" out the Riddlers "clues".

It wasn't all grade A Camembert, if you could watch it without squinting you could make out the sub-plots, well sub-plot, where Robin's jealousy of Bruce Wayne getting his way with a pretty Russian was disguised  as common decency. Essentially he turned off the pervy tv in the Bat Mobile.

90% of the budget I would say went into the vehicles, not unlike the modern retellings. Aside from the Bat Mobile there was the Batcopter, Batboat and the greatest of all the Batcycle. You just have to stick a bat shaped fin on it and its a Bat Vehicle.

On my own personal scale I'd give it 3/10 only because it made me laugh so hard at the super cheesy acting and dialogue.

Sorry bout that. Nothing pisses me off more that a shitty movie.

Worked Monday to Friday last week. *MONIES!* So with Saturday off Kylie and I decided to get a bit of culture by going to the Museum of Tropical Queensland. I actually quite enjoyed it, it had quite a few exhibitions to peruse.

H.M.S. Pandora
The Plight of the Aborigines
Bugs and other crawlys

A little old school bondage.

Minding my own business and then BAM! outta no where attacked by a stuffed Duck.

This explains it, cus i couldn't be arsed

Just after, I panicked a little. Needed to get out!!!!

engrossed by a little informational movie

the frown on walking also.
Finished off a day of brain expansion by going for a wee bite at the place I work. Can anyone say staff discount? :)

Back to work tomorrow. Lunch service again this week, with a new menu to learn. Oh God wish me luck, it's taken me a month to learn the current one.

Varied mixture of crap today, enjoy!

Start work at 8pm tonite. I imagine I'll be in my bed for 4am, fingers crossed. My sleeping pattern has completely reversed itself from "farm time". I am now nocturnal again *sigh*

My thoughts on the Warrior before I have to get into work mode. First I wanna say that Tom Hardy is one of the most intense actors I've ever watched. His role in Bronson actually scared me and the same for this film.

This is a mans movie no doubt, the subject matter is MMA (that's mixed martial arts to you girly folk ) but within in this story is weaved a tale of confrontation, redemption and ultimately the fucked up-ness of an Irish boxing family in America the Conlons. If you've seen Fighter, you will want to see this.

But within the movies brutality there are short bursts of actual emotion, ones that gave me a lump in my throat and one particular scene that gave me tear,. am not telling which.

If your after a movie with emotional heart as well as physical, adrenalin pumped heart this is a must watch.

Suffice to say that this movie is worthy of an Oscar, which aren't far away but when it comes down to it probably won't because it's not so artsy fartsy enough for the film bigwigs.

The work crew keep asking me to go drinking with them  but I can't bring myself to waste hard earned cash by pissing it down the toilet bowl, not when 2 drinks cost an hours wages. Eventually am gonna have to give in to the peer pressure. Don't get me wrong I like them all, they are a pretty cool bunch, it's just they kinda drink 5 nites a week and that is not who I am.

So the dilemma is, do I go out some nite and try to drink em all under the table and show em who's boss or just have a few and limp home early like a fecking eejit. I hate the minefield that is sociability.

The book am reading, Inheritance. The one which I wrote about here has been lying on the floor now for almost 10 days, I haven't gone near it and I'm not sure why. I read maybe a 5th of it and just abandoned it. It's not my book, i borrowed it from Anne (German off course) with a deadline of 3 weeks to read it. She has gone and I guess it's mine now and maybe with no pressure to read it it'll get finished.

Superhero Movie of the Week Club.

I've joined a superhero movie of the week club. A script writer and daily blogger Joesph Mallozzi had the idea. He is one of the writers from my favourite tv shows. The Stargate series.

So 1st up is the original Superman movie from way back in 1951. Superman and the Mole Men, starring George Reeves

When I watch old movies, pre 1960 I change the filter in my brain. What I mean by that is that I try to forget everything that modern cinema has offered and wind your brain back to a time when social values where much much different to todays. Would a movie like Saw have made it past the censors back then... No way in Hell.

So to the movie itself. Well it's Superman, so good start.

Being only a few years after the end of the war the story plays upon the invasion storyline. Except the invaders come from underground and are Mole Men (no mole women I guess).

Except the Molmen arn't invading, it's the jumping of conclusions from the local towns folk that get that ball rolling.

The town have dug the deepest oil well in history and at 6 miles hit nothing, The earth is hollow and that where these we beasties come from.

Then it all plays out from there. The towns folk get there mob on and start chasing these critters all over the place, with a chase scene that felt like it lasted forever. Superman does his thing and steps in and save the day. Well not quite one of the Molemen gets hurt and he has to whoosh it to hospital.

Then the others come to the surface with a weapon and get there sick friend back.

See simpler times.

The acting in this movie was superb. Reeves played the all action hero to perfection, Phyliis Coates' lois lane was the right amount of ballsy and the leaders of the mob played what I thought was the best roles, angry, protective types. Act now ask questions later. Of course I gotta tip my hat to the creepy mole men too.

I say this is a good start to the SMOTWC, yeah we shall find a better moniker. Next up is the 1966 Batman Movie. I already know its cheesy and camp and that htere is an exploding shark within the 1st 10 mins. That will be a hard one to watch.

P.S. Go to his blog, it's very cool. He talks about food, his dogs and his Japanese Girly friend. (to lazy to h-ref again)

Square eyes

Essentially during this festive period all I do is watch movies

It started with the Santa clause of course on x-mas day, Tim Allen in one of his best roles.

Then came the movie night at the cinema with Sherlock Holmes 2 and Inbetweeners. If you remember we where supposed to watch a 3rd but bailed and that was Warrior.

Robert Downey Jr in my view is one of the most talented actors a man can get. I guess he draws on all his "life experience". He plays insane/alcoholic so well. Then being backed up by Jude law made this movie dare i say better than the first.

The inbetweeners for those not in the know is a British comedy television show based in a high school, one which I never watched. This was the movie that closed the book on the school years. I guess you could say it is the pommie version of American Pie, instead of apple I guess steak and ale would be in its place.

As I said we bailed on the Warrior, it was 4am we where tired and Kylie was hungry. I'll come back to this one tho. That was boxing nite.

Then came Conan the Barbarian, the new one. It was very good and has a favourite actor of mine as the lead. The huge Jason Mamoa. He had mighty big shoes to fill, read replace and you know what he pulled it off. I was also very impressed by the actor who played the younger version, Leo Howard

Ice Age - Mammoth X-mas was next, A hilarious 25min x-mas spin-off.

Apollo 18, essentially Clover-field on the moon. The same "found footage" movie that makes me puke when seen on the large screen. So I watched this on my netbook and yep, didn't puke.

I started to watch Scorpion King 3, yeah I didn't know it existed either. It was so awful I turned it off after 15mins. Awful, just awful. Please take my word for it and don't waste your money on it.

I read a blog by a guy called Joseph Mallozzi, he is a writer. Television shows, movies and has even got a comic book series coming out in the new year this month.

Anyways he has started a superhero movie of the week club and I have opted to join in the fun. 1st up is "Superman and the Mole Men" 1951 encase your interested. Watched it today on Youtube. Yes legally, as the copyright has run out. I wanna use this little club as post fodder so my next post will contain thoughts on this movie.

It being only 58 mins long I decided that I wanted to go to the cinema and watch a long movie. I choose MI:IV Ghost protocol. Guess what, it was too long. Got kinda bored which is weird cus I love the previous 3 Mission Impossibles.

I'll let you get back to whatever it was you where doing now. I'll give you my thoughts on the Warrior along with Superman tomorrow.
